STEM Hub Launches in Lane County

On February 18th, the Chief Education Office, in partnership with the Department of Education, announced state support for a new cohort of five STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Hubs, including Lane County, to build capacity for regional, cross-sector partnerships.

In Lane County, this capacity support will be used to ignite student interest in STEM careers, increase the number of confident educators and students innovating with STEM concepts, and increase educators comfort and applicability of the next generation science standards. “As a county, we are committed to leveraging local assets as we work to create a local framework to support STEM development,” said Larry Sullivan, Superintendent of Lane ESD. “By working with local industry experts, educators, university and community college representatives, local government officials, and the chamber of commerce, we know that we can develop a shared vision for increasing access to STEM and deepen student connections to the rapidly growing STEM employment opportunities in our region.
